Bordal Houses

Pros: Susana was easy to communicate with and gave us many good ideas for what to do whilst here. We loved the beautiful secluded garden and pool, with many flowers and a terrace area to relax in. The lounge and bedrooms were well furnished and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. We also liked the more leisurely feel of this part of Funchal/Sao Martinho. Others have mentioned the steep narrow road the property is on which you have to walk up to get to your car. We didn’t mind it and enjoyed the challenge but I wouldn’t recommend it for those with any mobility issues. Not least because cars are constantly coming down the hill with few passing places to jump into.

Cons: The smell of damp throughout the kitchen/lounge and feeling of cold as a result. The smell built up overnight or when we had been out but would go if we opened the windows. It really needs attending to if others are to enjoy staying here. Otherwise the property was lovely.

Perfect home base for a 10-day hiking trip to Madeira!

Pros: Almost everything about the property was perfect: it was comfortable, very well equipped with kitchen tools, had plenty of sunlight, a great bathroom, amazing terrace, and lovely garden! Susana, the host, was absolutely exceptional, friendly and responsive. Parking isn’t possible on the premises itself, but further up the street (about a 3-minute walk away from the property). Funchal and restaurants were perfectly accessible by foot, but keep in mind that you will have to pass by some hills. Although the property is located close to a somewhat busier road, the large distance between the gate of the property and the house itself ensures complete peace at night as well as during the day in the garden.

Cons: The only small minus was that there is a bit of a humid funky smell under the sinks in the kitchen and bathroom (only noticeable when you open the cabinets). Something which is probably difficult to fix because of the high humidity.

Beautiful apartment and pool with a gorgeous garden.

Pros: Bordal House is a beautiful property and has a relaxing pool and gorgeous garden, with fruit in abundance. The apartment was spacious and we loved the outside dining area. It is near some great bars and restaurants. Our host made us a very tasty chocolate cake - one of the best I have had. Thankyou so much.

Cons: The microwave was not working. I think that they were going to fix it. Also there was a slight damp smell near the sink cupboard. I should also mention that it is on a very steep hill. Fortunately not too far from the main road. It was good to have the workout. The general relaxing atmosphere, beautiful space and pool made up for all this.

Cons: Not having parking. Really tricky specially with babies to access the property

Pros: Beautiful area with a lovely view, very friendly staff, and great hospitality. The apartment has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Cons: It’s not immediately clear, but the house is divided into multiple apartments, so you’ll be sharing the space with other guests. There’s no on-site parking — you’ll need to park a bit farther away and walk uphill.

Pros: Very cosy house, perfectly furnished. Host is great, supporting us during the whole stay. Nice location.

Cons: Pool was cold - no heating. High humidity level -could be better to use devices to make it lower.

Perfect Hospitality

Pros: The house is very comfortable and in a great location, close to shops and restaurants. On arrival we were greeted by the very welcoming Marcia and presented with complimentary fruit, bottled water, wine, tea and coffee. The gardens are beautiful with fresh fruit and herbs available. The area around the pool is also very relaxing. Susana is the perfect host, providing an abundance of information about the area and supplying us with a delicious homemade cake. A wonderful experience all round.

Pros: Staying at Bordal Houses made our Madeira trip wonderful. Our house was very cosy, exclusive, well-designed, comfortable, we had everything we needed. We loved the pool, enjoyed our breakfast in the garden and adored all the days spent in this lovely place. Special thanks to Susana for her incredible chocolate cake!
