Casa da Avó

Pros: Very drive to airport and good road connection to all of the island. Very nice and cosy. Great view visible straight from bed makes you want to get up and start the day. Honey cake and bananas from the house owner is a nice bonus.

Very lucky to find this place to stay.

Pros: The owners Dulce and her husband were sooooo jice and kind. They welcomed us the house, recommend places and introduce the house spaces. They are very helpful. Reallly really recommend this place.

Perfect location in beautiful surroundings

Pros: We had the most wonderful stay in Casa de Avo and were very sad to leave it. The location is perfect, beautiful surroundings and walking distance from the centre of Machico. There are two big supermarkets about 15 mins walk away as well as local bakery with fresh baked goods and cakes just 2 mins walk away. It is a perfect location for hiking with lots of hikes that can be even started in Machico, while others just short drives away. Dulce was a lovely and welcoming host and the house itself is well equipped, kitchen has every utensil that can think of. Wonderful stay and hope to be back at some point!

Feels like home

Pros: Dulce welcomed us upon arrival with fresh fruit from her garden and local food and drinks. The house has everything you need for your stay, from a coffee machine, toaster, microwave... It is located in a quiet area with free parking in front of the house. Upstairs, there is a large bedroom with access to a balcony where you can enjoy the peace and the view of the city in the evening. The rooms are equipped with big wardrobes, so there is plenty of space to store your belongings, and the beds are comfortable. Just 20 meters from the house is Pizzeria Alforno, so when you don’t feel like cooking, you can go for a really good pizza. Throughout our stay, Dulce was available and always ready to help (which means a lot when you are far from home). There really wasn’t anything we were missing. If we ever return to Madeira, this is where we would want to stay again.

Pros: We had a wonderful stay at this apartment - it was even better than it appeared in the pictures. The views from the windows were stunning, and the terrace was a great addition. Everything was clean, tidy, and well-maintained. The host was incredibly welcoming and responsive, always quick to reply. We were greeted with fresh fruit and local sweets, which was a nice touch. The host also provided excellent recommendations for nearby places to eat, shop, and explore. The rooster songs in the morning added a charming, rustic touch to our stay. The only thing we would have wished for was heating options, as our trip to Madeira was in mid-December, and it felt a bit chilly in the apartment. However, there were plenty of warm blankets available to keep us comfortable. We would definitely recommend Casa da Avó as a place to stay when visiting Madeira.

A true gem

Pros: An absolutely lovely place to stay! It was only a pity that we stayed just for one night. We were three people but this little cute house easily accommodates five. Beautifully furnished and decorated, surrounded by a small garden, and it has a gorgeous balcony. The host is extremely kind, she had brought us clementines, lemons and peppermint for tea from the same garden and bananas from nearby. An absolute recommendation!

Very clean, fells like home, everything you need

Pros: It was super clean, host was amazing! She was prepared for every situation. Small things like a whole jar of tea, shows that she don’t count- she gives everything from her heart! Garden was amazing, she invited us with fruits from the garden. Also, view from the balcony is amazing. Close you have 2 restaurants. You can use parking. Roads in the neighbourhood are easy to drive! I fell in love with hospitality! Definitely I will be back!

Great place for Machico stay

Pros: Dulce is an incredibly welcoming and helpful host. There were thoughtful food gifts on arrival and the accommodation was spotlessly clean. There is an excellent Italian restaurant immediately next door.

Cons: Unfortunately, there were many mosquitoes but that was related to the time of year and location. Bring mosquito repellent!

Great place to stay

Pros: Lovely welcome from our host. Really responsive and flexible. Beautifully laid out accomodation with very comfy beds and pillows.

Cons: Sad that we only stayed 1 night

Pros: Everything about Casa da Avó was fantastic. Our hosts met us upon check in to show us around the accomodation which was fully equipped. Machico is a quiet town but has all the ammenities you would need close by. There is a great view of the town from the terrace at the accommodation, lovely spot for a sunset drink or dinner. Riccardo and Dulce were very lovely and accomodating, Dulce even dropped by later on during our stay to drop off some fruit which was very kind!

Cons: Not a criticism, just a note for American and Australian travellers. There is no AC much like the rest of Europe, so it can get a little warm. However opening all windows gives a lovely cooling breeze which was perfect to sleep in :) .
