Escarpa - The Madeira Hideaway

I would definitely recommend it, it was very nice.

Pros: Very beautiful, clean, friendly and professional staff, delicious breakfast, beautiful terrace and pool facilities. Very nice restaurant. Beautiful view and nice extras in the room with coffee tea and beverages. Location was also good.

Cons: With the stormy, chilly weather which we had, the room was quite cold and damp at night - even with extra blanket. Adjusting the thermostat did not seem to have any effect. A few times there was also not hot water. I also wish the temperature of the jacuzzi was a bit higher. It was warm but not really hot especially for those chilly days.

Lovely, remote and quiet location with everything you need to escape from busy life.

Pros: Beautiful and spacious, clean room, with a great view. Spacious bathroom. Good bar with choice of cold drinks, fridge and other amenities to spend time there comfortably. Very good breakfasts! About 10 minutes by car to other restaurants if you need variety.

Cons: Unfortunately, during our stay , there was a problem with hot water, on few occasions, related to the weather a month ago. the water pressure wasn't too high too. My suggestion for the breakfast tables: as they are very small: less glasses , lamps would make it easier to maneuver the plates and little bowls.

Picture perfect

Pros: The breakfast each morning was fantastic, the staff couldn’t do enough for you as a guest and the views just topped it off, incredible. The restaurant owned by the hotel is also amazing, you need to make a reservation but we are here twice and could have even gone for a 3rd! I read lots of reviews regarding parking availability and the steep hill up to the parking however myself and partner did not find a problem with either and would encourage to not let it put you off visiting, I was expecting it to be much more worse.

Cons: Our lizard friend who lived with us for the week that we couldn’t seem to catch, however he was harmless and did not make it back in any suitcases.

The perfect peaceful paradise for our honeymoon.

Pros: The location was incredible, with views from the infinity pool of waterfalls, paragliders and a beautiful expanse of sea. Breakfast was wonderful, with a great selection of cold bits and fresh eggs cooked to your liking. The 90 Degree restaurant on site was also wonderful - we ate there twice and the food was incredible and the service exceptional. Petra (the owner) was also wonderful and took great pride in making sure all of her guests were incredibly well looked after, as well as ensuring our transfers were booked to and from the airport she also offered to ensure we had food to take with us for our very early flight back. I could not recommend Petra and her team enough.

Cons: I had done my research before arriving so we were aware but the hotel is quite remote, with lots of steps up and quite a tough walk to the nearest town Ponte do Sol. Expect a 20-30 minute taxi ride to Funchal (although taxies were always readily available). There also isn't air conditioning so the rooms do get very warm, but two fans were provided and we were relatively comfortable to sleep with the fans on.

Idyllic place to relax and unwind

Pros: Wonderfully secluded location, with a beautiful infinity pool, looking out to sea. The breakfasts are incredible and all the staff are so welcoming and helpful. Thank you Petra and team for a truly memorable stay.

A place to remember

Pros: Great views from a real hideaway. Petra is a exceptional hostess, kind and careful. All the staff makes you feel at home. It is a good location for your stay in Madeira, if you intend to visit the whole island from a single spot

Cons: The entrance to the hotel could be better marked, as finding it can be a bit tricky

Wonderfull stay, very relaxed sourrounding.

Pros: The view is awesome. The rooms modern style, well equiped, breakfast excellent, pool wonderfull. Very nice small village, no noise, only pure nature. Rocks, trees and the sea. The manager solve any problem very professional.

Cons: Nothing what i dislike.

Relaxation, rest, and pure enjoyment!

Pros: One of the best experiences! My husband and I were absolutely delighted with the hotel and only regret that we stayed for just four days :) We had a spacious room with a private pool — a very peaceful and comfortable atmosphere. The hotel was quiet and calm. The staff and the owner were incredibly friendly. The breakfast was wonderful. For lunch and dinner, there’s a great restaurant just around the corner. We sincerely recommend this lovely hotel for relaxation, rest, and pure enjoyment!

Cons: Everything was nice. The room had everything we needed.

Pros: We had a wonderful stay at Escarpa. The views were stunning, just like the villa and the pool. The staff were very friendly, and the breakfast was excellent. 🐳🌊🩵🦋

Cons: The water pressure in the shower could have been a bit stronger, and there was a brief wait for the hot water, but these were only minor inconveniences that didn’t affect our overall enjoyment of the stay. 🌸

Amazing place with incredible views

Pros: We loved staying here. The pool and pool area was amazing, the views were incredible. Rooms were spacious, bright, clean and had stunning views. Breakfast was delicious. It's an incredible place and a real hideaway! Super relaxing, quiet and hidden away. The pool was amazing and the sunloungers and umbrellas were great.

Cons: The only thing we didn't like was the access to the accommodation. There is a popular waterfall on the same road and traffic can be a bit of a nightmare as it's a cul de sac so there can be a lot of cars trying to turn around and reverse on a narrow road. There is a big hill up to the parking area that requires a 3 point turn to get up. But once you're up there the parking situation is good and the views make it worth it.
