Comfortable place with a nice view

Pros: The facilities were nice and it was clean and well maintained, the owner was very helpful

Cons: It’s a bit tricky to get to, you will need a car and the roads leading to it are full of potholes

I enjoyed it here and the owner was really nice and helpfull!

Pros: I liked the view and it’s peacfull beside the sounds of workes around.

Cons: It’s hard to get if you don’t have a car or you don’t drive

Pros: It has EVERYTHING you need, super clean and Orlando may be 0% english, but he is 1000% good vybes and has a phd in google translate. The property is very safe, very well-kept, and in a silent area. Obrigada Orlando!

Cons: Getting to the property might be complicated. First get to Empressa de cerveza and THEN put Casa da Faja in google maps, you’re welcome!

Pros: The owner was a super kind and freindly man who was a whizz with Google translate

Cons: Remoteness and for old people too many steps though I found it ok

Don’t expect a 5 star hotel with a comfortable location but rather authentic place surrounded with banana trees and leva

Pros: Close to nature, a lot of green around and clean, well equipped little apartment. There are 2 ways to get to the place; from line 3 bus stop walking almost all the time uphill for 1.5 km along the industrial complex, which may be an issue for some, or walk from a bus stop of lane 81 through a beautiful levada - less challenging physically but not for those, who are afraid of heights. The host doesn’t speak English but uses translator to help in everything he can. Very friendly and nice gentleman. Brought me fruits from their garden ☺️

Cons: It gets a little noisy in the day as the apartment is close to the industrial area but I was gone hiking so it wasn’t a problem for me. Unless you like hiking and have proper footwear, it’s better to have a car to get to this place.

Hidden gem

Pros: A secluded location with a great little apartment. Well thought through with everything you need.

Cons: It was difficult to find, Google took me up a dead end. The owner was trying to WhatsApp me to meet, but I was driving and didn't realise. The road was poor but drivable.

Good place between Funchal nad Camara Los Lobos.

Pros: Super quiet, remote place in a rural walley between Funchal and Camara los Lobos. Very kind host.

Pros: Secure, secluded bungalo in the valley. Private kitchen (no oven) and private bathroom. TV, shared patio surrounded by terraced hills above. Quiet other than lots of frogs croaking in the river nearby:) Orlando, the host, is very friendly and helpful-use Google translate if you don't speak Portuguese. He contacted me via whatsapp to confirm check-in and gave me directions to the accommodation (a little hard to find otherwise) Beautiful lavada walk with panoramic views of valley/terraces just above the accommodation (keep going up outdoor staircase). I think there is another levada walk on the other side of the road/valley (starting at the place Orlando directs you to park) but I didn't make it to that one.

Cons: A little out of the way from town and somewhat industrial feel with the quarry but also beautiful with surrounding terraced valley. This is nice at the end of a day in busy funchal if you like to be in nature and away from the buzz of the city, but if you want to be in the heart of town or don't have a car, you are likely not going to appreciate this location. Very narrow road on the way to the rental that goes past a quarry. There is minimal traffic so just go slowly and it won't be a problem (I had a Fiat Panda and managed fine for a week). I had no windows in the front of the unit (one in bathroom and one in kitchen but no light from these) so kept the door open to let the light in. Can hear the working quarry at times but didn't bother me. Overall good price for private unit and nice to be able to cook. Definitely want a car of your own.

Pros: I like the peace I could have there and how helpful was the owner.

Cons: Next to the accommodation is big fabric which can be enjoying if you planning to stay during the day around the house. It wasn't big deal for me because I was always out walking.
