Colina Mar

The view, the view, the view. But beware.....

Pros: The view is superb, right across Funchal, either from the balcony or if the weather is inclement from the patio doors. The patio is south facing, so it gets the sun all day long. Vanda is a great host, goes out of her way to be helpful. She provided excellent info on where to collect keys from. The apartment was exceptionally clean, spacious, comfortable and firm mattresses, very well equipped kitchen, good showers. Shower soap, dishwasher tablets etc provided. Plenty of storage throughout. Flowers and herbs were a nice touch. WiFi is about 100Mb/s, and mobile reception is good. The lift works well, and can be accessed via the garage if you have mobility problems. The parking in the garage is spacious. Easy walk into town, get a taxi back. Bolt is available, and price agreed on booking. We found it to be excellent.

Cons: So, why a score of 8? Well, there are some points you must be aware of. The two bedrooms facing the street will get noise from the cafe across the road, most of the time there is a group of 2-4 people standing outside and gossiping. Not loud, but annoying as the rest of the street is very quiet. The windows are double glazed, but the conversations, though muted, can be heard. The bedroom and the lounge at the back are unfortunately about 20m from the back yard of a neighbour who has a small dog which barks for about 12 hrs per day. When I say bark, it is actually “yap, yap, yap, yap, yap yap yap” ad infinitum. I do feel sorry for the full time residents of the adjacent houses. No full length or shaving mirrors.

Perfect apartment for two families, amazing view from the balcony, super host.

Pros: The location and the view! Vanda is an amazing and very caring host. The apartment has everything we needed and even more. It was such a nice experience to have incredible view from the apartments balcony. We apartment was very clean and comfortable.

Pros: Location was excellent for access to the town. Star aspects of the stay was the outstanding communication with the host and amazing balcony with views over the town and sea. The apartment was super clean, excellent kitchen facilities, large airy sitting room, comfy beds, two bathrooms etc It was a truly lovely apartment, perfect for our stay.

Perfect place to stay in Funchal

Pros: If you want to stay in big apartment in a quiet part of town, Colina Mar is perfect. Having breakfast on the balcony with the view of Funchal is amazing. It was easy to walk down to the waterfront and old town and there are shops and restaurants close to the apartment. Vanda (the owner) is the perfect host and will make sure you have a nice stay. Would love to come back... the view really is stunning :)

Pros: great location, quiet place, garage In your apartment there is everything anyone can need and expect. So, we have missed anything. We have to mention unbelievable hospitality of the Vanda (owner). This is simple the place you want to visit again.

Fantastic choice, a real home from home.

Pros: We had a lovely time at Colina Mar. We were there to celebrate our 50th anniversary and Vanda’s wonderful warm welcome made it very special. You couldn’t ask for a better host, it was a real home from home. Spacious apartment and well equipped kitchen. We loved looking over old Funchal and the harbour while sipping our evening G&Ts! The entrance to the garage takes a bit of practice, but once inside, there’s plenty of room to park. Just make sure you hire a small car because of the entrance and the local streets which are very narrow. It was worth having a car because we loved having the independence to explore this wonderful island in our own time. Thank you again Vanda. I’m sure we’ll back!

Pros: The apartment has fabulous views of Funchal harbor. It is very well furbished, with modern furniture and appliances. The landlady was very helpful, she even drove us to airport when taxi failed.

Pros: My wife, 18 month old son and I had the pleasure of staying at Colina Mar for a winter vacation for 5 nights. We were given a warm welcome by our wonderful host, Wanda, and made to feel at home. The apartment is fully equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay including spacious kitchen, living and dining room, laundry, and balcony with fantastic panoramic views over Funchal. It also caters well to young families with plenty of space and equipment like cot and baby chair which makes life very easy. Wanda also had some great tips on car hire as well as possibilities of undercover parking in the building.
