Enjoying The White Whale House.....

Pros: We stayed in White Whale House, on the first floor, one of the five apartments available. Clean and very well equipped as a self catering unit, close to two small, friendly supermarkets. Cançal is on east of the Island of Madeira, a short drive from Machico and the airport at Santa Cruz. The capital town, Funchal, can be reached in under half an hour along excellent roads. My one criticism of the apartment. We stayed in Jjanuary, the evenings are cold. A fan heater would have been welcome. The lady house keeper was friendly and efficient. When we had a small problem with the pod coffee maker, she quickly resolved it. Communication with the property owner by email worked well. Access to the property on arrival was very easy thanks to a well timed instructional email. All in all, we had a wonderful stay.

Cons: The lack of a heater to boost the temperature in the chilly evenings.

Great base to explore the island

Pros: It was a great location for us to get to the airport early morning with a rented car. Access to other parts of the island are also easy since it’s close to fast routes. The apartament is spacious and well organized. Very close to supermarket and a great bakery/pastry shop.

Pros: The appartment is beautifully designed, iĺpmmaculate and so well equipped to ensure a comfortable vacation. Within walking distance of lovely restaurants and short drive to the gorgeous prainha beach and Sao Lorencho peninsula and sea emotions boat trips.

A nice apartament in a quiet village. Travel east to see fantastic landscapes

Pros: Nice house in a remote village. It's not a touristic area, is more in the middle of a quiet place. Very nice compared to the rest of the southern cost of Madeira. Canical is a peaceful place, quite close to the stunning landscapes of Ponta do Rosto. The main highway of Madeira ends here and makes the place well connected with both southern and northern side of the Island. Host ready to help, no major hassle. Nice shops quite close.

Cons: Wifi is quite erratic, water pressure is not very strong. Kitchen equipment basic but no major lack of utensils. The bar in front of the house is noisy until after 11.00 p.m.

Pros: The apartment on the first floor is all right and relatively comfortable. Nice to have a private terrace, and had the weather been better, we would have enjoyed it more. Canical is a relaxed small town (except for that mentioned below) and good to stay in, if you want to avoid the noise and hassle in Funchal. Many local restaurants and a few good local shops.

Cons: One local bar opposite the house can be noisy and so is the exhaust fan in the bathroom. The double bed is hard. The kitchen lacks a few necessities, which we had to buy ourselves.

Perfect place!

Pros: Perfect little place on the edge of Madeira. The flat/house is fully stocked for a longer stay as well - kitchen fully loaded, TV, bedding, couches, everything's perfect. Authentic village location too fully of locals.

Cons: Getting Bolt from/to there can sometimes be a struggle but if you're renting a car - not a problem at all.

The stay met our expectations

Pros: The apartment was small but everything was there and just right for 2 people. There were no tourism within the next surrounding. In terms of shopping for everyday needs, this was a great advantage as prices were much lower than in regions with tourism. A small supermarket and a bakery were only 2 minutes away.

Cons: The apartment was well equipped. A few egg cups and a thermos would be a good addition

Pros: Nice & confortable litle appartment in town, close to shops, restaurants, whale museum, port, hikes and only 15 min from the airport.

Best place to stay in Madeira.

Pros: Everything- nice and new appartment in the fishing house, great kitchen with wasching machine, coffee maker nespresso, oven, act. Good wife. Such a nice bedroom with big cupboard so you can live there as home. Supermarket opposite the house also the bar with great coffee for 0,90 eur. Canical is just 12 minutes from the airport. Terase where you can barbique.
