Beautiful clean, architect designed villa with an abundance of light and amazing views of the coast
Pros: •\tWe enjoyed our stay at the beautiful, modern, architect designed Villa Omar. The villa was extremely clean, well-furnished and the kitchen reasonably well equipped. The balconies afforded magnificent views out towards the ocean and we enjoyed some amazing sunsets. The layout and design is wonderful and light streamed in with breath taking views of the coastline. •\tThe bathrooms were extremely clean and stocked with toilet paper, hand wash, lotion and shower soap. There were ample towels and linen in general. The washing machine was a great addition. •\tThe management company were quick to respond when the toaster blew the fuses, a replacement was sent the next day. •\tIn this location you definitely need a car to get around, shop etc •\tWe were very lucky with mostly beautiful weather during our stay – although very breezy! Lovely small swimming pool but the water was freezing.
Cons: •\tThe building site next door should be mentioned in the booking information - the workmen arrived, noisily at 08:00 every morning except Sunday and left at 18:00 each day. The noise, although intermittent, meant it did, without doubt, affect the ambience of our stay. •\tWhile we agree with the owners principal of minimal window coverings, the bathroom window facing the building site would benefit from a venetian/roller blind as this room was overlooked by the building site. •\tThe hob let us down, mid cooking, on several occasions. It does not like both front and rear rings to be ‘on’ at the same time and took a while to reset. We notice this had been reported in previous reviews and really needs replacing. Some suggestions: •\tA guidebook in English … maybe other languages too and a map of the Island •\tA tray to carry drinks, snacks etc upstairs •\tMore information regarding grocery stores, shops, restaurants and their locations •\tA cafetiere – for ground coffee •\tSome milk and bread for when guests first arrive, rather than having to hunt out a grocery store on arrival •\tA full length mirror in a bedroom •\tAn oven glove •\tLabelled chopping boards: vegetable, fish, meat •\tGo walking at Fanal – there are some beautiful Lavada walks nearby too •\tBest supermarket – Pingo Doce – Calheta and also at Ribiera Brava •\tExcellent restaurant – inside the hotel Estralia at Ponto da Sol •\tGood home cooking – Dos Amigos, 5 minutes towards Ponta do Sol

Spacious house with great views in a calm neighborhood
Pros: We stayed two weeks in this spacious house. It offers great views of the ocean especially from the rooftop. It is located almost at the end of a dead end street in a quiet neighborhood. Canhas is close to Ponta do Sol, where there are some good restaurants and bars. Comfortable furniture in the living room, good beds, spacious bathrooms.
Cons: There are no curtains or blinds on the ground floor, and none of the windows or doors have fly-screens. Since we discovered dead/dying cockroaches every morning around the house and on the balcony, we kept the windows shut during the night, resulting in sticky air and high temperatures inside. With nearly all windows facing south, it got hotter inside than outside. It was our fourth vacation on Madeira and the first time we encountered cockroaches at the holiday property. The property management said that this is usual for a tropical island. Mid-vacation, a storm knocked over several banana trees, damaged outdoor furniture, blew debris into the pool and dirtied the terraces. We cleaned and fixed everything as well as we could but we lacked the necessary equipment to do this properly. We are aware that the storm damaged several houses and gardeners and janitors were busy, but the damage was repaired only shortly before our departure and only partially, which limited the outdoor usability. Some minor things: the stove is malfunctioning. It stops working when you operate more than one cooking plate. The house has three chairs at the dining table. Chairs in the bedrooms and especially at the desk in one of the bedrooms would be nice. There was no tea pot, no big salad bowl, just 3 small bowls.

Problematisches Einfahrtstor, launischer Induktionsherd.

Pros: It was a beautiful property - location was incredible and wonderfully maintained. It was comfortable, quiet, clean, spacious and the best place to watch the sunset on the island. The property is even more beautiful than the photos posted! It will always be a drive to get to other areas on the island (beaches, hikes, etc) wherever you are staying and this location still felt central and well worth any additional driving due to the exquisite property.
