Casa Do Mercado by Heart of Funchal

This was our second visit to Madeira and Caso do Mercado. Both times we stayed 12 days and hired a car for 3 days to exp

Pros: Situated in the old town, convenient for seafront, harbour, restaurants, shops, city centre. Clean and comfortable apartment. Alexandra was an excellent hostess and was always on hand to offer advice and assistance.

Superb location for Funchal visit

Pros: Superb location to visit Funchal. Easy to reach -even with the airport bus. The flat had everything we needed for a few day stay. It’s close to lots of restaurants, two big supermarkets, the market hall and the cable car. Very convenient.

Pros: Such a lovely home — it makes you feel welcome the moment you step inside. Spotlessly clean, with thoughtful little touches that make guests feel truly special. There’s a small garden in front where you can relax and enjoy peace. It is very quiet being at the same time in the middle of everything. I especially appreciated the fresh flowers that greeted us when we arrived — such a warm gesture. Alex was wonderful — she welcomed us with a bright smile and shared plenty of helpful tips on what to see and do in the area. Thank you, Alex for having made us feel genuinely cared for. Thank you so much for a beautiful stay.

Cons: Everything was perfect, except the number of nights. It was too short ;)

Lovely flat and friendly hosts

Pros: Casa do Mercado is the place to stay in Funchal. Very central, yet quiet, the apartment is very comfortable and equipped with everything you need. Our hosts were also very welcoming and did their best to make our stay enjoyable. We stayed 2 nights in the apartment with terrace and 2 nights in the standard apartment. Both were equally great!

Wonderful, central apartment in Funchal.

Pros: Such a stunning apartment with kitchen. Everything you need.

Cons: There was a smell from one of the sofas that needs deep cleaning but apart from that, everything was perfect.

A beautiful, clean, well situated, quiet property. Perfect place to explore Funchal!

Pros: Very comfortable property, light and spacious. Close to many dining options (and well equipped kitchen if you prefer to cook). Very comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. Friendly and communicative hosts.

Spacious clean apartment with the domestic feeling.

Pros: Very comfortable apartment located in the center of the old city with many restaurants around. Cable car is 2mins away on foot. Apartment was very clean and spacious, kitchen had everything we needed. We were met by a fantastic host Filipa upon our arrival and everything went smoothly.

Cons: Just a few things that could make the stay perfect - towels are changed weekly, could be more frequently. They do change them upon request with the additional charge. Every 3 days free of charge would be nicer, but it is what it is. We've brought few of our own. There were some tiny ants in the kitchen. They did leave a spray against them, but that does not solve the issue. Professionals should come in and resolve the problem. I had to mention the ants, wife's orders. Finally, make sure to ventilate the bathroom, open the window after shower etc. All in all, just a few small things, but overall our stay was fantastic.

Warm welcoming and convenient

Pros: host met us. gave us the key and talked us through the amenities and local area via WhatsApp throughout the stay. she was always on hand and very relaxed about me getting in touch

Pros: Studio apartment was spacious and in a central location within a very short walk of plenty of amazing restaurants. Kitchen had everything required to cook a meal if desired and bathroom was the biggest in our 3 weeks travelling in Portugal.

Cons: Only complaint was that the bed was rather firm.
