Blue by the Sea House

Pros: Pure oceanic air, the silence of mountains and forests.

Pros: Spacious apartment with a great upstairs terrace overlooking the sea and very comfortable downstairs lounge area. Feels very private, with own patio and the terrace. Communication with the host was excellent - when we reported an issue with heating of the hot tub a technician called round within half an hour. Wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Cons: Nothing, everything was just as we expected, or even better.

Everything was great in the end and had a very nice time there

Pros: It looked just like the pictures. The view from the terrace was amazing during sunsets! The bed was very comfortable, although it got quite hot at night. The A/C helped a bit though. The host was very nice and super helpful and had patience with all our questions! Even brought us some Madeira goodies as a gift. Highly recommend!

Cons: A bit too hot at night and the mosquitos, but the latter was not the fault of the property

Pros: Very clean, spacious house. Jacuzzi with seaview was great. The house is very well equipped. Host verry responsive and helpful. Close to the famous Maktub restaurant. I had a great stay.

Peaceful Paradise

Pros: Paul do Mar is fairly quiet at that end of the village with only a couple of bars. The main noise is the wildlife! It suited us as a couple in our 60's. The house is on a beautiful banana plantation. The view of the sea from the hot tub is to the front but if you turn around you also have the mountains and the bananas! the TV worked straight away and the kitchen was fully stocked. I asked for a couple of things and Lito bought them immediately. His customer service was exceptional throughout and he made sure to check we were OK. Nothing was too much trouble. You would need a car here.

Cons: The bathroom is small for a 2-bed house. The spiral staircase would not suit the immobile or larger person. Although you can access the upstairs also via the terrace which we did with our suitcase. Also, there is no road to the building so you have to carry suitcases/shopping up a small alleyway so that might be an issue if you are not fit. We have noticed before that hot tubs are set at lower temps abroad. I think they see them as cooling off jacuzzis during the day. For us Brits it's about keeping warm in the tub on an evening as the sun disappears! :) There are 21 tunnels between Funchal and Paul do Mar ( some quite long) which we disliked as we felt we spent a lot of our holiday underground! There are old roads to follow but they are very slow and tricky. The north of the island is better.

Very comfortable rustic house, well located in

Pros: The location was great. We really enjoyed the surrounding (banana plantations & sea views). The house (beds, sofa etc.) was very comfortable & well-equipped. It is in a very peaceful spot. At night all we could hear was the sound of the waves & a cricket!

Pros: Beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, hot tub on the terrace with fabulous views of the ocean and cliff face. Very relaxing few days. Would definitely come back!

Pros: Location was perfect just a short walk to the main strip. A 2 minute walk to the beach and 10 minutes to the restaurants down the road. The host was fantastic, provided great recommendations in the area. We even ended up extending our stay rather than heading to the city!

Pros: Everything was just great! The perfect house in the prefect small town. The house is extremely well equipped and well situated. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, great living area and 2 terraces with sea view. Everybody who wants a relaxing beach holiday should visit this house.

Pros: if you are looking for a beautiful view of the ocean and the atmosphere of relaxation, this place is for you.
