No longer a good location!!!

Pros: If you are a hiker then this place is basically a 5 star lux refuge or hiking lodge. It is very large, has 2 aircon units and a heated towel rail so we were able to dry everything for the next day's hike when we got soaked, albeit with a little ingenuity. The outside space was just fine, the view fabulous and it was quiet. The towels were fluffy and thick and the bed was comfortable.

Cons: The location is a big issue - once brilliant, it is now pretty much pointless because the road west is permanently closed (meaning a 50 minute trip down to the coast along and up to get the the 25 fountains area), the 3 big peaks to the east are are all pretty much inaccessible with all the main walking paths closed semi-permanently and even the PR17 is theoretically closed towards the end (but we and many others ignored the dire warning and clambered through the hole in the fence). Much better to stay in much nicer accommodation, close to amenities for only slightly more money on the south or north coast. Also note that whilst this place is a grade A hiker's refuge is struggles to meet a 2 star hotel level as a self catering unit. The utensils, pots and pans, glasses and cutlery in particular were all inadequate. We felt the manager was distant and uninterested, the enforced check-in window of just 60 mins between 6 and 7 was also harsh. The was no information in the accommodation, a run-down on what was closed and open would have been invaluable.

Loved it!

Pros: Great apartment in the wood. We loved it. It has all comforts while allowing to stay in a peaceful setting! The view is awesome! ..we loved the complementary pears from the tree!:)

Cons: The road to get there is a bit steep, but totally

Pros: It was great! Beautiful location, you must go to the local waterful as stunning! Make sure you bring your own food and drink too!

Pros: The property was so so beautiful and the staff were amazing with any issues we had such as finding the key, their replies were so quick and helpful! The place was impeccably clean and the location could not have been better it was gorgeous

Cons: I will say although it’s amazing the road (as many of Madeira) to get there can be a bit tricky. We struggled the first time but then we were fine. If you’re not a confident driver keep that in mind.

We spent a few days relaxing and walking on the property and on nearby hiking trails

Pros: The location of the property provides stunning scenery, The nature walks are beautiful, one has all they need in the kitchen. The peace and serenity wonderful.

A true retreat offering beautiful scenery and comfortable \

Pros: The setting is amazing and perfect for a retreat from where to explore the region and particularly good for hiking. The sunrise over the mountain and the surrounding views are quite stunning. The accommodation whilst not modern, provided all the essentials and was particularly spacious. Comfortable bed, good kitchen equipment, large wooden table and chairs for dining and outside seating area, all very tranquil and private. The management gave helpful instructions and were easily contactable via Whatsapp.

Cons: The setting is extremely remote and requires a car and competent driving skills to navigate the narrow and long sin gle track lane to reach the buildings, especially in the darkness of the evenings, requiring the opening of a barrier and the activation of an electric gate via a remote. Maintaining silence is important since there are several units and the guests are generally early risers. There is no TV, no radio, not even a clock, etc though the wifi was good. Also no washing machine or oven. The property is monitored externally by cctv which whilst offering security could be viewed by some as slightly intrusive.

Highly recommend for hikers

Pros: Highly recommend Lovely location. Waking up to a mountain view was unbelievable. Great location for hiking in the mountains. Will return.

Wonderful experience!!

Pros: If you’re looking for a stay to get away from the city and be in touch with nature this is definitely your stay. Waking up in the morning listening to light rain and everywhere cover in mist while cooking breakfast was a highlight! Also there is a magnificent waterfall 10 minutes away from the property that will be worth your while to visit!

Cons: The road to reach the property might be long and confusing at first but it was worthwhile

Relaxing trip in the mountains.

Pros: Cute, cozy and intimate accomodation. It was well located in the mountains. There was a trail near the accomodation where you can walk to a stunning waterfall. Ana was really nice to us. Would recommand !

Cons: Could be more equiped to do the cooking (ex: wooden spoon, spatula, working kitchen hood, strainer, cutting board).

Special location in a forest.

Pros: Super friendly host that was very helpful! The location is in a forest near to the main hiking trails.

Cons: Nothing.
