Great location and decent standard

Pros: The location does it. It cannot be more central than it is. Very helpful staff

Cons: There are some noises in the room but it comes with the very central location - it is bearable though. Good breakfast but poor lunch/dinner restaurant (there are 2).

Great location, nice tarrace with the pool

Pros: We really loved that the pool was open in January and the water was warmed up :) It's a small pool, so it's not possible to swim there properly, but it's still lovely. The location is very convenient for traveling around the island. Personnel were very nice.

Cons: The room was quite dark, I had the feeling it was raining outside all the time, even though it was sunny. Also, there are not a lot of vegan options for breakfast

Pros: Amazing views from the pool, very comfortable bed and lovely shower. Breakfast was fab, if a little busy. Excellent location.

Cons: A little on the pricier side, but worth it for fabulous stay and pretty perfect location.

Pros: Fantastic location, room with an amazing view over the cathedral and the mountains beyond, comfortable bed, lovely shower, excellent breakfast, friendly and helpful staff, great pool and a lovely Valentine's meal in the restaurant on the day of our arrival.

Cons: The only tiny thing that would have made the stay even better for us would be milk to go with the tea (as Brits that's how we like tea!), and spoons rather than stirrers as it's a bit tricky to make a good cup of tea with a wooden stirrer!

Great city centre stay

Pros: Beautiful hotel in a fantastic location right by the Old Town and seafront. Clean and comfortable with friendly, helpful yet unobtrusive staff. Spacious room with huge bed, and comforts such as robes and slippers. The rooftop pool and bar made for a lovely addition, and though I didn't use the pool, plenty of people were so it was clearly warm enough for a plunge in mid-February. Good breakfast of a morning and though I only ate at the on-site restaurant once, it was tasty and the service was good. Great choice of bars and restaurants nearby, and though the hotel was in the centre, I personally wasn't bothered by any noise. Yes, you could hear the bins being emptied sometimes late at night, but this is to be expected in the centre and it really didn't bother me. I guess it's not the cheapest of places you could stay in Funchal, but that said, you could certainly spend more and I didn't feel at all short changed. I would definitely stay here again.

Pros: Liked the top roof, the room, breakfast (good food, clean and nice atmosphere) The hotel is new and modern, just matching our taste! It is a plus to have gym, but it is small. Very central location. How they managed some small issues, made us agree it to be a five star hotel

Cons: Did not think the pillows and duvet was so good

An unforgettable stay with exceptional staff

Pros: We had an amazing stay at Barceló Funchal Oldtown and couldn’t be happier with our choice. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful and went above and beyond to make my friend’s birthday truly special — it meant so much to us! The rooftop bar and pool are absolutely extraordinary, with stunning views, and we honestly think this is the best choice in Funchal Oldtown. The location is perfect, right in the heart of everything. We were very, very happy with our stay — thank you to everyone at the hotel for such a wonderful experience. Highly recommend!
