Great hotel

Pros: Location; excellent view of the city and sea during breakfast and afternoon drink. Short walk to the city center Sunny rooftop swimming pool

Pros: Staff friendly and helpful, location great, 5mins walk from the centre...great swimming pool and views.

Cons: No tea/coffee facilities

Stay at Hotel Monte Carlo - lovely 😍

Pros: The day staff (a young lady sorry i didnt get her name ) and evening staff (Islam) were super helpful and very informative and kind. The hotel is a very old classic building with lots of character and charm and quite ornate but old features. The library has games, books and a couple of classic old cash registers interestingly. The bedroom was nice, big. Bathroom nice, had opening wooden louvered doors onto a little very cute balcony. There was a fluffy friendly cat called mimi I think. Breakfast was nice and Breakfast staff very helpful.

Cons: Not that I didn't like, just to note In the bedroom it was cold no heating or plug in heater, there was a spare blanket. In the room there was no kettle but you could get a hot drink from the bar to take up.

Really happy with our experience

Pros: The view of the city is spectacular (either from the pool, the terrace or the breakfast/dinning room). Friendly staff. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was varied and good. We had a delicious light dinner on the terrace one night. The hotel is walking distance from the center (about 12/ 15mn)

Cons: The hotel is located on a pretty hilly street. Something to consider if you have big/heavy luggages or limited mobility. Breakfast is only served from 8am to 10am. Parking spots are limited (3 or 4 cars maximum). Some equipment needs to be updated.

Pros: The hotel is absolutely beautiful. Very old , reminded me of an old Hollywood movie

Cons: The door locks didn't feel secure enough and the place wasn't clean properly, specially the bathroom. Thankfully it was just me so it was my own mess and I didn't mind.

Great budget hotel, definitely could do with updating but that would also be reflected on price

Pros: I didn't even realise this place had a rooftop swimming pool with amazing views! I was even more pleasantly surprised when I realised it was just outside my room!

Cons: Music management outside the pool - music was still playing at 10.30pm, when asked for it to be switched off - it did get switched off but then came back on a few minutes later. Ispoke to staff the next day and didn't have any further issues with it. Oh, and the hairdryer - I borrowed it fro reception, it didn't stay in the socket for some reason, I had to dry my hear holding the plug with one foot, pretty sure that wasn't very safe to do :D

Idyllic - great location, amenities and staff.

Pros: Superb views (double aspect) from the bedroom over Funchal and the ocean. Lovely rooftop pool that I had to myself every day. English speaking, very helpful staff, particularly Marcia and Islam. The owners were also very friendly. Really good value for money. Our flight home was cancelled and they were able to put us up for another night in the same room with no notice.

Cons: A little bit more variety at breakfast would have been nice but it didn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Relaxing, luxurious and great value.

Pros: I booked a single room and so was surprised to get a well-sized double with large ensuite. My room was right next to the pool, complete with panoramic views across Funchal, the mountains, and out to sea. The hotel exudes an old-world charm, in keeping with the traditional feel of the city. The staff were all excellent. They were friendly, helpful and extremely welcoming. It was lovely to have such a peaceful and beautiful base to come back to every day. Breakfast was a daily buffet of some hot items, always eggs and some meat or mushrooms, and a glorious selection of fresh local fruit, cereals, yoghurt, juices and hot and cold drinks. Nothing was too much for the staff and I would highly recommend this hotel. It was great value and a great base for exploring.

Cons: I am a regular hiker, but the hotel is up a hill from the town, so be prepared for a bit of an uphill march! It's only ten minutes and you can get taxis for 4 euros so not really an issue.

Pros: Hospitality was very good-thank you to Harry and the rest of the staff. Lovely old building with history and an awesome staircase to rival Hogwarts! Had a library room, which was cool, and has great views of the city and ocean. Not too far from the sea front so great location.

Pros: Perfect location, 10 min away from supermarket, 2 min away from corner shop, 7 minutes from seaside. Spacious room with balcony. Terrace with sea/city view. Very friendly staff.

Cons: It would be nice to have a kettle in the room.
