Relaxing days in the mountains above Funchal

Pros: Great cabin in the mountains! You can directly hike from the door to Pico Arieiro! In the middle of the beautiful nature and still it’s only a few minutes to Funchal!

Cosy cabin in a beautiful location, perfect for hikers.

Pros: The location is beautiful and serene, the cabin was immaculate and really cosy. I can't recommend it highly enough for anyone looking to escape and experience true peace and quiet. There is no wifi or phone signal (wifi can be accessed at the reception if it's needed) which for us was a perk- it was a wonderful relaxing trip. It's the perfect location for hikers- there are beautiful trails right from the doorstep including one incredible route up to Pico Do Areeiro that was stunning, and much quieter than any other trail we hiked during our stay on Madiera. Even though the weather was colder in mountains, especially during the evenings, the shelter was well equipped with a heater and warmed up quickly. It was fabulous being able to see the stars so clearly at night. Funchal is a very short drive away and easy to reach if you want restaurants in the evening or for supermarket trips.

Cons: A really small thing- the bathroom was lovely and has a fabulous shower, however due to cold and humid weather, and the nature of the cabin it was really hard to get our towels to ever dry. The shelter will provide fresh towels for longer stays though.

Pros: Lovely cabin in a very quiet setting with easy access to nice hiking trails.

Cons: We had some trouble finding the lodge but Dioclecio was very helpful to guide us after dark!

Pros: We absolutely loved the shelter. It’s really cute and clean and we loved the location in the mountains. It was very comfortable and well equipped. The staff was also super nice and friendly. We had a really great time!

Cons: It’s not a big deal and more of a heads up but ithe air can easily get a bit stuffed upstairs where the bed is which might be an issue during warmer weather. Also there is no house keeping so in case your stay is a bit longer you might want to bring fresh towels.

A cosy retreat!

Pros: We loved our Eco Shelter stay! It felt like a real escape. Lovely location, beautiful park and surroundings. The hut was perfect. Spotlessly clean and well equipped. We received a lovely welcome from Dioclecio, who was really friendly and great at communicating. If we visit Madeira again, we will definitely stay here :) Highly recommend. Thank you!

Restful, comfortable and peaceful

Well thought-out place, in the middle of a nature park. Would definately come back.

Pros: The location in the nature park was great, very quiet and you can easily reach other spots in the mountains. The hike starting from the shelters (violet into red/yellow trail) was great after visitng other crowded trails. We enjoyed the nearby bar a lot. Dioclecio was a great and enthusiastic host, he told us the story behind this place and how the shelters support the restoration of the park, which is extra nice. The cabins themselves are functional, clean, with custom wooden elements.

Cons: Just some minor comments, but a washing machine in the common shelter would be very useful, as well as a sunbed or a hammock on the terraces to rest after a day in the mountains.

relaxing, stunning stay. everything we needed was there. the host was very responsive and kind. we recommend it!

Pros: It is in a beautiful place, calm, relaxing, the location is great but a car is a must to explore around :).

If you love to relax in the middle of nature this place is the best in Madeira

Pros: Super clean, modern sheltters. Hiking trails around. Very kind, nice owner. Great bar/restaurant just 5 minute walks from.
