Pros: Fantastic retreat in the mountains. Felt completely removed from busy life, which was the intention! Comfortable, clean, and cosy. The host was super friendly. The food at the local cafe was great. The donkeys were cute.

Great stay up in the mountains! Would go back.
Pros: Location amongst the trees, great hikes nearby (including the famous Pico to Pico, which starts a short drive away) and a sunset hike on the doorstep, peaceful, friendly meet & greet from host and quick responses to messages, but not hassled. Bedding, towels and shower etc of good quality. Comfortable bed. Heater warmed the cabin up nicely when required.
Cons: Not really anything to add , except that it could maybe benefit from the addition of a toaster

Perfect stay to contrast with busy Funchal
Pros: The location in the middle of a nature reserve. Calm and quiet apart from the occasional donkey and peacock ;) Very nice and warm host. The 'shelter' is still new, clean and it is nice to be able to cook our own food. The variation in weather between clear blue skies with sunshine, mysterious fog and cloudy with rain. Very close to Pico do Arieiro to watch the sunrise and sunset. The flashlight came in super handy!
Cons: We stayed for 5 nights. Would not mind to have stayed for longer, but that would have been a bit expensive. Scissors would be a nice extra.

Prachtig in de natuur en goede uitvalbasis voor wandelingen
Pros: Mooie rustige locatie en accommodatie (en inrichting) van goede kwaliteit. Vanuit de locatie kan je een wandelroute naar de Pico Areeiro nemen. Erg mooie en leuke route, maar wel uitdagend. Goede uitvalbasis voor veel (actieve) activiteiten als je een auto hebt. Op loopafstand zit een leuk tentje waar je overdag wat kan eten/drinken en op 10 min rijden zit ook een andere plek waar je savond lekker kan eten. Wees je bewust dat je in de bergen zit: dit is heel mooi, maar het weer kan snel wisselen. Daarnaast daardoor ook beperkte internetverbinding en weinig waterdruk. Voor supermarkt moet je ook een stukje rijden.

A stunning nature stay with ample fresh air, peace, quiet, and friendly hosts.
Pros: Everything was absolutely perfect - ideal for a quiet escape, beautiful hiking trails all around, fresh mountain water, the shelters themselves are beautifully organized and well equipped, and the hosts have been superbly helpful throughout our stay. Plus, the donkeys on the premises were extremely sweet and friendly! Would highly recommend, and we're looking forward to going back!

Pros: The place is amazing, very cozy and amazing views- really into nature. It is equipped with everything you need and the bed is sooo confortable. The staff is also very kind and always available. From the park you can do a 2-3h walk to Pico Areeiro- we did it for sunrise and was moderate level. We would definitely come back in the future!!

Pros: Super schöne Hütte. Liegt etwas tiefer als die anderen Shelter, dafür wird es nicht so heiß. Man hat einen direkten Blick auf die Berge. Insgesamt ist die Lage zum Wandern super (z.P. Pico do Arriero, Pico Alto) die Umgebung ist schön ruhig. Das Wanderrestaurant in fußnähe ist auch super. Dioclécio ist super nett und hilfsbereit. Fließendes Wasser ist ebenfalls vorhanden, wie auch ein paar Gewürze, Öl,.Geschirr etc. und eine Kapselmaschine.
Cons: Ein Mietwagen ist notwendig, da die Bushaltestelle nur 3x täglich angefahren wird. Zum einkaufen muss man nach Monte fahren (ca. 20-25min, bergig). Es wäre super, man würde am Anfang etwas Trinkwasser erhalten (das Wasser dort ist nicht unbedingt trinkbar, da es aus dem Berg kommt). So muss man evtl. nicht direkt nach Ankunft einkaufen fahren.

Ein kleines Paradies in Mitten der Berge
Pros: In mitten der Natur im Nationalpark liegen diese kleinen Holzhütten. Die Unterkunft war liebevoll und sehr modern ausgestattet - es hat an nichts gefehlt! Die Betten waren besonders bequem, so dass wir besser wie zu Hause geschlafen haben. Weiter ist zu erwähnen, dass unbedingt die Nachbarn (4 süße Esel) sowie das Wanderrestaurant 5 min entfernt für ein leckeres Essen oder nur ein Getränk besucht werden sollte. Diese Info haben wir von den Gastgebern erhalten, die sich sehr zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit waren!
