Pros: The hotel is a gorgeously preserved late 19th century Manor House - full of quirks and personality. We enjoyed staying here and having the views over Ponta do Sol and the mountains. The walks in the neighbourhoods and up to the hills were lovely.

Antique, classic stay

Pros: Clean, animal friendly (good if you're a cat person), staff were friendly and accommodative. The hotel had an 18th century vibe, parking included and excellent breakfast. I wish I stayed longer if not for my flight the next day.

Cons: Location is a bit far from the city centre, but makes up for the view. Shower was leaking a bitn

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing 5 night stay at the Villa Alto Hotel.

Pros: The breakfast was excellent, and we sat in lovely surroundings. There was a very good choice if cereals ,fresh fruit and yogurt. A good choice of cooked food including bacon, eggs , mushrooms and tomatoes. A good selection of bread and preserves, crossiant and coffee.

Cons: Nothing comes to mind.

stunning location with beautiful views

Pros: beautiful location with fantastic views. exceptional breakfast. lovely traditional decor with old original bathroom. very cool

Cons: room was beautiful but getting a bit tired. a lot of grouting missing in the bath. could all do with a bit of maintenance. expected the room to be in bit better upkeep. some pillows were very lumpy, and the white bedding was not so white anymore. just needed a bit more attention to detail for a boutique hotel.

A lovely scenic stay

Pros: A grand villa, superbly restored and decorated inside and out.

Cons: Bathroom a bit cold. The introduction could’ve been a bit more thorough and thought through (coffee option from the breakfast restaurant wasn’t mentioned), we had to discover bits and pieces of information from A4 sheets left around different surfaces in common areas.

Pros: At first, I didn’t like our room — it seemed small and in need of renovation, which is true. But over time, that didn’t matter anymore. The place is wonderful, with funny cats and a truly homely atmosphere, beautifully decorated with great style. The breakfasts were the best of our whole trip (and we stayed at two other, newer hotels). What I’ll remember most and miss the most is this place itself.
