Pros: Beautiful location set in a hillside garden. Lots of windows and an incredible view. The host was very considerate and welcoming.

Good stay - would recommend

Pros: It had everything we needed. Easy parking, good location, with an offer of breakfast. It was walking distance to a restaurant for breakfast and dinner which we went to and was very nice.

Cons: The facilities inside were a little basic, but perfectly adequate. There wasn't any soft seating, and the kitchen would be able to cook a simple meal.

Calm oasis with the best host

Pros: We absolutely loved our stay and would come back anytime! The location is perfect – you can easily explore by foot, but it’s also great for going around the island by car. Viriato shared really helpful tips on what to do and see. We felt very comfortable in our unit, and the bed was by far the best one we had during our whole trip. We also loved learning about the long tradition of the house – he explained its history to us, and it has been preserved as much as possible in its original state, which made our stay feel even more special. The garden is beautiful, and if you’re looking for peace and calm, this is exactly the right place.

Pros: We have spent 4 nights in Quinta das Hortensias and we have really enjoyed our stay! The house is beautiful, in a very calm and pristine location and Viriato, the owner, is a great host. Coming back home after a day full of hikes and just sitting in the beautiful garden was a real plus! Really recommended!

Very beautiful and quiet place

Pros: Breakfast area outside in an incredibly beautiful hortenisa garden. Flowers overload, just stunning. Very quiet, good kitchen, lots of food for breakfast provided for free, including the most incredible sweetpotatoe bread baked in the bakery of the Quinta furao hotel in Santana. What a service! We loved everything. Owner showed up a few times to ask if everything OK or anything needed. Also provided useful information on hikes etc. Great feeling in the place. Would definitely come back.

Heaven garden

Pros: Atmospheric architecture. Incredible garden, calm village, view from the bed and apartment welcome gift, friendliness of the owner. We enjoyed cooking our own breakfast. One of our nicest Madeira stays.

Cons: You need a car. Lots of bees, Gotta be careful also with ants and unprotected food, nothing major

Pros: We loved this place. Gorgeous garden, amazing views, apartment with a lot of atmosphere, everything you need, and comfy beds. This place really made our trip. It was hard to leave! Thank you Viriato!

Pros: Beautiful location in, as yet, unspoiled, peaceful part of the island. Great garden, charming and quirky chalet-type apartment, decorated with love, all necessary facilities provided and more, generous gifts of food and beverages from host - useful if without a car. Very friendly host with helpful advice.

Cons: Bathroom perfectly clean and functional, but could do with an upgrade. Some traditional wicker furniture beautiful but not comfy.

Amazing location and garden.

Pros: Incredible garden and views. Well furnished and comfortable apartment. I could have stayed there for a month.

Pros: The apartment has the most gorgeous setting, among a beautiful garden overlooking the sea. Inside there was lots of original character and the kitchen was very well equipped. Super-friendly and responsive host.

Cons: It was a bit chilly inside while we were there, which we expected from an old, atmospheric house during rainy weather. Electric heater was provided though, as well as an air dehumidifier and plenty of blankets. On colder evenings when you can't sit outside it would have been nicer to have a more comfortable indoor sitting area/sofa.
