Engenho Velho Hotel & Restaurante - Adults Only

Pros: The location was perfect, it was very quiet and peaceful, ideal for relaxing. Everything was very clean and well maintained. We really enjoyed our stay and felt very comfortable :)

Cons: The only small downside was the breakfast: it was the same every day and the selection was a bit limited.

Pros: Great swimming pool, beautiful views, perfect sunset by the pool! Spacious and very clean rooms, idem dito for the bathroom. Good breakfast; everything you need. Friendly staff. The hotel has their own (free) parking lot, which is a luxury on the hard-to-park-your-car-island of Madeira.

Relaxing stay and great food

Pros: We had a good experience. The room was comfortable. We had a great view of the Ocean from the room, it was wonderful. Breakfast was good. We ate dinner at the restaurant twice - the food was delicious both times.

Will visit again.

Pros: Engenho Velho has a warm, sunny location with panoramic views. Its excellent swimming pool facilities provide safe swimming and gardens. Engenho Velho has an excellent restaurant menu. It has a great range of tasty local starters, main courses and desserts. Specialised in local fish. Traditional bar drinks were excellent. Service excellent. Regarded as the best restaurant in the area. There are Pleasant hillside walks in the hills above to local villages. Hill-top cafe with panoramic views. Birds and wildlife for nature lovers. Calheta has 2 beaches below with beach bars, supervised swimming 9 months of the year. It has a large Supermarket and shops. Marina provides marine activities, whale and dolphin tours. Pick-up for island tours. Bus service.

Lovely small hotel with a great view

Pros: Lovely peaceful hotel with great views from all rooms, and a well maintained pool. The rooms are a good size and well designed. A car is needed, there is not really anything within easy walking distance. There are staff available at the restaurant if you need them, otherwise as it is only a 10 room hotel it is very quiet, you don't tend to see staff. This suited us, we wanted a quiet location.

Cons: Breakfast is limited as it is only a small hotel, it wasn't replenished, so those arriving later had very limited options. We were fine with this but it might not suit guests who are late risers.

Wonderful staff who all appeared to multi-task.

Pros: Beautiful location. Cool modern rooms with large balconies. Attractive restaurant and outside dining area.

Cons: No comfortable seats or loungers on the large balcony of our suite. Just a small table and two chairs.

Stunning views , quiet location

Pros: Stunning location, off the beaten track for real relaxation and chill out time . Rooms are nice and big and have a fridge/freezer so very good for snacks and water. The portion sizes for dinner are great and very generous . Calheta town is 5 minute drive and has a good supermarket and pharmacy and several restaurants on the marina side and a lovely beach. Definitely need a car when staying here . Also there is toilets and showers with changing rooms just off the pool area so great for check out day if you have a later flight .

Cons: Food wise the breakfast was like previous reviews that its not topped up and nobody manning it so wasn't worth getting up i would say . Lunch and dinner is the same menu which I thought was disappointing .

Pros: We chose the Engenho Velho SOLELY because it is adults only - like MOST adults we are not travelling with kids; and do NOT enjoy being disturbed by them. Congratulations to the Engenho Velho for realising \

Secluded Madeira’s paradise

Pros: Fantastic and secluded venue providing relaxation and warm atmosphere

Cons: Brekfast offering could have been a bit improved especially if it comes to coffee
