really good experience overall, i recommend
Pros: it is a pretty small hostel in a nice house with a view for the ocean. the people i met there were great. there are two individual bathrooms which you can lock. there are a few lockers on the hallway but not enough for all guests. you can do laundry and dry outside in the backyard.
Cons: had to pay extra 20€ upon arrival for tourist tax and cleaning tax, which i didn’t know about. you have to walk at least 30 min to get to Funchal. There aren’t many beaches around except for a rocky beach about 20 min walk away.

Pros: loads of rooms, many opportunities to meet new friends. two kitchens, all cooking equipment was provided. very friendly and helpful staff. ping pong table is a great idea!
Cons: my bed was creaky which had no impact on my sleep just slightly annoying but seemed to be the only one. bit far out of town around a 30 min walk away, downstairs kitchen could be upgraded.

I had a great time and I would really recommend it.
Pros: There was a big beautiful balcony where you could look over the ocean. It was quiet in the neighbourhood. It has three single bathrooms, which I feel are way better than the group ones. The staff was really nice and I could even stay one night longer spontaneously.
Cons: To be honest, I was a little scared because of the reviews, but I thought the host was very nice. Yes, the city centre is 30 minutes away. That means you have to plan a little bit more. But it felt more like a guesthouse than a hostel. The bunkbeds are a little loud, but I wasn’t in the hostel before where they weren’t squeaky. It’s still a hostel.

A budget place in Funchal
Pros: The kitchen, the bathrooms - all clean and have everything necessary. There's a nice backyard with the ocean and banana garden view. It's a great choice for its money, but sometimes can be noisy because most guests are young people.
Cons: The location. If you don't drive and are not ready to spend money on taxi - it's quite a long walk from the centre. There's a bus that goes past the hostel, but in the evenings I didn't see a single one while walking back. And there are no shops or anything else around, so if you buy food in supermarkets in town, you either carry it all the way or take a taxi. The beds are a bit hard and creaky.

Very happy with stay, enjoyed my time here.
Pros: Very very clean, small hostel so very social. Lovely view from balcony and terrace. Staff were helpful although rarely there.
Cons: A little far from the city but it's a lovely 30 minute walk, and bus and bolt are cheap. Bed and pillow were quite uncomfortable and squeaky.
