Hotel Riu Madeira - All Inclusive

Excellent family holiday hotel

Pros: I was happy and my family was too. The hotel is clean. Staff friendly and super helpful. Free coach to and from Funchal. Pool and facilities, we have no complaints. Location is good too

Cons: The evening entertainment could be better but that's a personal choice. My 14 year old enjoyed them

Super hotel in beautiful Maderia

Pros: Beautiful seafront location. Spacious rooms Spotlessly clean throughout. Very good selection of food which was very tasty . All the staff were great. Reception staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Mimi the hotel cat is adorable.

Cons: During the winter months the air conditioning is changed to heating. We were too warm and so advised to turn this off and use the ceiling fan which we did, however, we were still a little warm during at night. I would have preferred to be able to decide myself if I wanted a/c or heating. Small irritation in an otherwise super stay.

Will return to this hotel.

Pros: Very beautiful hallway and great views from the room. The staff was so helpful and friendly. Great night entertainment.

Cons: Not bad to say about our stay . Maybe only wish a better drinks selection, but was not bad at all.

Great hotel with outstanding staff

Pros: Hotel was fantastic, great variety of food and drinks, but what made it special was the outstanding staff. 100% recommend and we will be returning

Pros: The location was perfect, and the hotel is very nice and clean. It has an amazing view to the ocean. The staff is very friendly and kind. For me the gym was a bit limited facility and I missed a real sauna ( there is a steam room). The food was of great choice, as a vegetarian I could also picked good meals and it vas quite varied. The rooms are spacious and the bed was comfortable.

Cons: The gym is small, and not much equipped. Other than that nothing.

Relaxing all inclusive with fine dining.

Pros: Location and facilities are great, as a chain and the stars. Food is excellent. Price is worth it, although that is not the hotel with facilities for children other besides outside and inside swimming pool, we didn’t need but consider, if you have small kids. There is a bus going to Funchal, what is nice to have. We expected relax and we have had that. Christmas atmosphere was nice in there. Dinning for NY eve excellent and luxury. That is a big hotel, with plenty of foreigners. Nice bars and gentle staff. Everyday there is a live music and a show.

Cons: We have expected in such a big hotel the NY party, it was only the fine dinner and some fireworks. With opinion to go to Funchal for a big mind night show to Funchal. I haven’t asked upfront if there will be a dancing mode, and I was surprised was not. If you know that you would be prepared. Interesting parking policy for additional cost (low, but still you pay much enough for room to be surprised), solved by free city paring just nearby.

Winter Family Getaway

Pros: The staff were very helpful and always smiling. The property was clean and well maintained. A big plus was the heated outdoor swimming pool

Cons: The restaurant could have better ventilation. Although there was plenty of food, the selection was rather repetitive

Pros: This hotel is very welll run, decor, staff , cleanliness, dining room, food, all above expectations. My wife and I will be back!

It was enjoyable

Pros: Snack bar, steam room, the beds we’re comfortable the entertainment was good

Cons: The pool could have been warmer. Wished there was a jacuzzi and sauna

Our second visit to the Riu hotel and Madeira. We have enjoyed, thoroughly our visits.

Pros: All the meals at the hotel were excellent. Very wide choice, covering a wide range of dishes and ingredients. The chef (s) and waiting staff were friendly and efficient.. Some were exceptional - including waiter Johnny and waiter Erica. Housekeeping were also very good and responsive to requests, as indeed were the reception staff ( especially David ) and the bar staff. A word two for Gina in the spa who gave us wonderful hot stones massages.

Cons: Only one member of the bar staff had brought his personal issues to work and that was reflected in his grumpy, perfunctory attitude. He worked in Pepe's cafe. I didn't bother with his name, but his attitude threw into relief, just how good everyone else was.
