Excellent as a special treat.

Pros: Excellent Hotel set in beautiful gardens, with high standards of service.

Cons: Accommodation is in separate building to restaurants. Inconvenient if raining, but hotel does provide umbrella in room. Changes in level and some uneven paths make it less desirable for anyone with impaired mobility.

Beautiful calm hotel and gardens .

Pros: Very beautiful gardens. Very calm. Helpful friendly staff. Other guests friendly. Large swimming pool. Good breakfast. Good location.

Cons: Gym needs upgrading. Needs a larger outdoor patio for breakfast. Some hovering guests waiting for an empty table is off-putting. Breakfast room is small.

One of the best holidays in a hotel that we have experienced

Pros: A beautiful location, ingeniously designed and set out. The gardens were gorgeous and the sitting and sunbathing places good.

Cons: Nothing!

Cons: Lack of personal. Breakfast was very simple

Great service, excellent breakfast, and beautiful gardens, though the hotel’s older style felt slightly overpriced.

Pros: Our stay was lovely overall. The staff provided outstanding service, the breakfast was perfect, and the botanical gardens are a real highlight. The hotel has an older, traditional feel, and we still very much enjoyed our experience.

Cons: The property reflects its age, and while it has its own charm, the pricing felt higher than expected for the amenities provided

Wonderful place, an outstanding hotel. Will be back and we do not say that often.

Pros: Beautiful, tranquil gardens make for a relaxed atmosphere. We really liked the blend of historic house and minimalist modern architecture of the new section of the hotel.

Cons: Nothing to criticise, excellent place to stay

Wonderful relaxing stay

Pros: Location is good ... close to shops and cafes (5 or ten minutes walk) and a useful bus stop on route 24 in and out of Funchal (not a great idea to drive in and they are quite reliable and inexpensive). Very good room (we were given the Pool ''Villa'' which was an entire small building with a large separate living room and a nice terrace at the rear. The gardens are wonderful (resident Monarch butterflies and all) and well maintained and there are two swimming pools (which we didn't get the chance to use). Breakfast was good with separate cooked offerings on order, and the restaurant serves Lunch and Dinner with a good menu with plenty of variety. We ate at the Manor twice and the food and paired wine was excellent (currently they only serve two fixed menus (which can be slightly adapted) rather than also an a la carte just to be aware. All in all we had a wonderful stay and will go back in the future I'm sure.

Cons: Not much not to like but ... The road outside is quite busy at times but most if not all of the rooms are some way from the main section ... there is a little noise at the terrace restaurant but its not that intrusive (and we hate road noise so it cant be that bad if it didn't bother us) ... Peppermint tea ... as with many countries across Europe its difficult to find (unless mixed in with green tea) and often not strong enough if you can find it so if this is your favorite evening drink prior to turning in take some with you or the hotel could persevere and find some (minor I know). At night the midges can be out so wear longer clothes (legs in particular) and a quick spray with repellant might be a good idea if they tend to ''like you''. This Id imagine is true across the island and certainly in Funchal I expect.

Good but not 5 star, we were told Manor House was an upgrade - it wasn't

Pros: Diinner and grounds are great. We had 2 good meals. Breakfast. average Two pool areas great for chilling Size of room good Quiet Overall service was good, friendly staff. Problems at check in as hotel arranged transfer did not meet us and staff failed to take responsibility.

Cons: Whilst the room in the Manor House was spacious, it was not 5 star and we were very much abandoned eg in the main rooms there were regular updates on weather, events, tours etc, this was only available to the new rooms. Room was \

Pros: really good breakfast, beautiful property and a nice spa.

Cons: Despite constant reminders and constant confirmations, they forgot to deliver birthday cake which could have made my partners birthday really special. No apologies or alternate arrangements offered.

Very relaxing stay

Pros: The hotel gardens are beautiful and they give a sense of space and tranquility. The sun loungers by the room were handy to have. The bed is very comfy. There are two pools but we chose to use the adults only one as it was in a nicer area. The banana trees are great (however we expected to see more banana options on the menu or even just bananas in baskets for guests to consume!). The more relaxed restaurant on site serves delicious food and is mostly reasonably priced. Hotel staff were very warm and welcoming. Breakfast had a good selection and was well organised. Hiring a car is essential for Madeira and there is parking at the hotel, they kindly sorted this for us and made it very easy!

Cons: The main pool area needs modernising in our opinion. You can easily hear noise from the corridors. Our room was at the end of the new building and the cleaners had their trolley outside our door for the whole day which was slightly annoying when it could be tucked behind the corner. Some food options are overpriced at the relaxed restaurant (€17 for a basic chicken wrap).
