A great place to stay in Funchal

Pros: The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel at home. The location is great and the gardens around the hotel are beautiful. The room was very spacious and comfortable. We also enjoyed the facilities - the swimming pools and spa.

lovely cosy hotel with excellent friendly staff and would definitely stay again

Pros: Restaurant food was delicious, that it tasted freshly cooked. Reception staff and lady who advised on trips and activities were very welcoming and attentive and helpful Spa was great albeit rather small and massage experience was lovely. Due to the cancelling of flights on departure day the staff were able to offer accommodation, luckily we could stay in our room for two nights extra, and would have offered another room

Cons: Service to table in restaurant especially in evening was very slow. The TV could not get Netflix or stream English speaking channels, only one. Had to get a DVD player with only a few films to watch.

Beautiful traditional hotel with excellent service

Pros: Beautiful building and gardens up the hillside but close enough to the old town.

Cons: It’s five star but it needs some updating. The charm of the traditional decor is lovely but some updates are needed.

Pros: Everything, the quite big size room with a balcony, the view from the hotel is amazing, the cosy spa, the delirious food, we had 3 x breakfast and 2 x dinners, the staff is very kind and professional, our special thanks to Sara and Filipe.

A charming hotel and very helpful staff

Pros: A very charming hotel with extremely helpful and friendly staff that attended to our every need. Our room was spacious and featured a good-sized balcony overlooking the attractive gardens. The breakfasts had a good variety of both hot and cold dishes, and the a la carte evening meals were very tasty and reasonably priced. The indoor and outdoor pools were well-kept, and the spa facilities were a treat. We were grateful for the shuttle bus to the Marina on days that we preferred not to make the 20-minute walk down to the centre of Funchal. We would very happily stay at the Quintinha Sao Joao Hotel & Spa again next time we visit Funchal.

Cons: Nothing of note.
