Pestana Carlton Madeira Ocean Resort Hotel

Pros: Great location ,wonderful views. Comfortable beds. Lovely breakfast in sun. Staff all first class,very helpful receptionist lady and restaurant team v good, omelette chef outstanding

Cons: As we were leaving the property around 10am on Sunday, we got out of the hotel with two large suitcases. A taxi rank stands about 30 metres uphill from the hotel. A white minibus was parked right across the access area which prevented taxi access. I asked a young bearded man who confirmed he was driving it if he could move it so a taxi could come to collect us. I am over 70 and my wife over 80. The young man subjected me to a volley of verbal abuse, shouting you are nothing,this is my island,you are stupid and moved to shout in my face which was intimidating and most unpleasant. I have never seen anyone behave like that anywhere,and in Madeira it was extraordinary. The Pestana was not responsible as he was clearly collecting guests,but it should be possible to find who he was. He needs medical help for anger management,and his employer should think long and hard.

Amazing sea view, charming hotel

Pros: Superior room was definitely worth the money, amazing view over the ocean, modern equipment, good air conditioning. Very clean including pool area. Great staff. Pleasant variety and fresh fruits for breakfast to choose from, decent terrace. Lots of restaurants and shops in walking distance. Would be pleased to return to this hotel.

Nice hotel in Madeira

Pros: Great location and good for Madeira, spacious rooms

Cons: A bit old school and not 5 stars like you expect. Parking is an adventure there.

Pros: Good hotel and location. Breakfast was very good. Rooms big and everything worked vert well.

Cons: Little old rooms. The noise came from the next room and the hallway.

Pros: We didn't expect to enjoyh this place as much. Rooms are very spacious and extremely comfortable. We received some lovely gifts (maybe due to us being there for Christmas) and free soft drinks in the bar were also a nice surprise. Breakfast was great mix od local and international good and the selection as well as variety during our stay was really good. By far the best added value are the gorgeous pools and plenty of space to relax without need to fight for your spot:) Especially loved the sea water pools and possibility od direct access into the ocean. Some od the staff members were amazing.

Pros: The staff was the best. Everyone was kind all the time. Maybe the phone conversations were not best and did not give me solutions I was looking for but otherwise all the people are lovely and make the stay even more relaxing and soothing. Also the style of the building, very classy with use info noble materials.

Cons: It is a big hotel, one needs to walk a lot to reach the pool but then again, it is a big property and that’s why it has a lot to offer. The dry sauna should have plastic roof changed.

Pros: Location, room, but most of all the staff on reception were a credit to Pestana.

Cons: Breakfast orange juice was poor and eating area very crowded due to poor weather and flight cancellations. Most of this was not the hotels fault.

We had an excellent stay at the Carlton, stunning hotel and staff.

Pros: The location is superb, just a short walk from Funchal with stunning ocean views. Breakfast is excellent with a huge buffet style selection of all sorts of foods, pastries and fruit.

Very nice stay and sure i recommend for anyone
